It’s an iconic part of the infamous Norwood strip with The Colonist standing proud on The Parade since 1851. With its high ceilings, ornate copper roofing and original wallpaper, the classic pub has managed to preserve its historic charm visually but don’t be fooled into thinking the menu follows suit, with the dining options being given a fresh, modern update for the warmer months.
A delicious variety of modern Australian-inspired dishes and platters join the traditional pub classics you know and love on the venue’s a la carte menu. Highlights include snacks like the Mushroom and Truffle Arancini, and Pressed Pork Belly alongside hearty mains such as Slow Braised Wagyu Beef Ragu and Seafood Linguini.
Diners can still order their favourite pub plates, with options like the Buttermilk Chicken Burger and Battered Spencer Gulf King Fish always a crowd favourite and, if you’re in the mood for something grilled to share, perhaps you’ll love tucking into ‘The Colonist’ Premium Riverine 500g Rib Eye for two served with The Colonist’s mouth-watering skin on fries and a selection of two sides.
The warmer months bring with them the long-lunches and shared dining experiences, and the new menu at The Colonist was created with this in mind. With a selection of smaller plates perfect for groups, they have also ensured it covers any and all dietary needs to ensure no mouths get left unfed.
Available daily from midday, the new a la carte menu joins the new and improved weekend breakfast menu, which has also had a revamp for spring. Available from 9am – 2pm on Saturdays and Sundays, the brekky menu features all-time favourites like Smashed Avocado, Eggs Benny and Buttermilk Pancakes but also some more elaborate and season-appropriate dishes such as the Nutrition Bowl and Butter-poached Salmon Fillet.
With new food, comes new experiences in which to enjoy it with The Colonist introducing a number of fun weekly sessions to get you out and about such as:
