South Australians are invited witness history TONIGHT as Port Adelaide takes on the Adelaide Crows in the first-ever AFLW Showdown at Adelaide Oval.
AFLW Showdown will mark the first time the two South Australian AFLW teams have gone head-to-head on the field and follows a long line of historic women’s firsts that are unique to South Australia.
In a huge boost for women’s professional sport, the game heralds a new chapter for the next generation of young South Australian women, who, until recently, could only dream of playing professional football for their state.
“There is no bigger rivalry in our game than Showdowns and our players, coaches and staff can’t wait for this historic night. I’m sure our members and supporters feel the same and I urge them to get along in big numbers to support our team,” says Crows CEO Tim Silvers.
“Our players are an inspiration, both on and off the field, for young girls and women and they have been a driving force in the growth of women’s football in South Australia and across the country.”
“The AFLW Showdown will be not only a celebration of women’s football, but a celebration of women’s sport,” added Port Adelaide Football Club Head of AFLW Juliet Haslam.
“The competitive rivalry that exists between the Port Adelaide Football Club and the Adelaide Crows is one of the most exciting in Australian sport, so this is a game not to be missed.”
Those heading to the game can take advantage of free public transport from 4.30pm on all bus, tram and train services to and from the city tonight, with Adelaide Oval bus services and additional train and tram services operating to accommodate crowds.
Tickets are just $10 for adults and free for children under 18. Gates will open at 6pm with Nova’s Celebrity Showdown, followed by the AFLW Showdown I kicking off at 7.30pm. For tickets and match information, click here.
