One of Kangaroo Island’s sweetest family-run destinations is opening its doors for a special winter afternoon of honey, art, storytelling and shared food.
Clifford’s Honey Farm will host its first Gutsy Kangaroo Island event, Daughters of the Hive, on Saturday June 6, bringing together honey-inspired grazing, drinks and a hands-on botanical geli printing workshop for one afternoon only.
The event has been created by sisters Bev and Sharon, daughters of Clifford’s Honey Farm owners Dave and Jenny Clifford, alongside their friend Kate, who grew up with them on Kangaroo Island. Together, they’re shaping the afternoon as an intimate celebration of family, creativity, food, bees and the deep sense of connection that sits at the heart of island life.

“As a family business, the event reflects many of the things we love most about Kangaroo Island life — creativity, nature, family, bees, food, and gathering together,” says Bev and Sharon. “While we regularly host honey tastings, tours, and agritourism experiences, this is our first intimate event focused more deeply on art, storytelling, and shared experience. We wanted to create something that felt warm, creative, and genuinely connected to who we are as people, friends, and family.”
Clifford’s Honey Farm is already well known as a multi-generational Kangaroo Island business, with many of its products and visitor experiences created by members of the Clifford family themselves. The farm also works with one of the world’s only remaining pure strains of Ligurian bees, which have been protected on Kangaroo Island for more than 140 years.
That rare bee heritage will sit at the centre of the afternoon, with guests invited to slow down, taste, create and learn more about the place behind the produce. The gastronomic tasting will showcase carefully curated food and drinks inspired by honey, offering a distinctly Kangaroo Island take on winter comfort.

“We’re passionate about evolving agritourism experiences on Kangaroo Island by combining food, storytelling, creativity, nature, and hospitality in ways that help people connect more deeply with where they are visiting,” say the sisters.
Alongside the tasting, guests will take part in a botanical geli printing workshop led by experienced artist Sharon, with Kate also guiding the session. The workshop will give attendees the chance to create their own handcrafted pieces to take home, adding a personal keepsake to the afternoon.
The event forms part of Gutsy Kangaroo Island, a seasonal program designed to bring warmth to winter through food, creativity, community and local storytelling. Across the island, Gutsy experiences shine a light on producers, makers and hosts who are finding thoughtful ways to bring people together during the cooler months.
For those looking for a cosy winter escape, Daughters of the Hive offers a rare chance to experience Clifford’s Honey Farm in a more personal way, with honey, art and family stories woven into one afternoon.
