Honour a Legend, Seek a Cure

Fitzy 5Fitzy’s 5 is a brand new fun run to be held in August to honour David “Fitzy” Fitzsimons.

Fitzy was a dual Olympian and one of Australia’s leading distance runners in the 1970s.

He was sadly diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma which proved to be his toughest and longest race yet. As tenacious and determined as Fitzy was, even he couldn’t beat this opponent and tragically, he passed away on September 7, 2008 at the age of 58.

He was a proud South Australian, a devoted husband and proud father who had a lively sense of humour.

The event is being held in his honour and will take place on Sunday 1 August 2010.

The race will start and finish at the Torrens Parade Grounds, where the course will pass some of South Australia’s most iconic locations.

Not only will you be supporting one of South Australia’s sporting greats you will also assist in raising funds for vital research conducted by the Hanson Institute.
