Pirate Life Brewery are dubbing SA’s latest train line the ‘Beer Train’ as it goes straight from the CBD to the breweries front doorstep. For the first time in over 40 years, trains will again run into the heart of Port Adelaide with the local award winning beer-producer totally on board!
Pirate Life is only a twenty-second walk from the station and sits only a stone’s throw from some of the fantastic local businesses.

The Port Adelaide Brewery was recently crowned the Champion Large Brewery at the Royal Adelaide Beer & Cider Awards (RABCA) with the highest score in the 250,000 litres or greater per annum produced category.
The popular brand was started by WA brewers Jack Cameron and Jared ‘Red’ Proudfoot who moved across the country to open the doors to their new venture – followed by bars and bottle shops across the country.
Head of Hospitality Katie Van De Merwe says they originally picked the Port Adelaide warehouse location back in 2018 because of the expected train line – which was ultimately delayed six years.
“You can now go from [Pirate Life] venue to venue,” Katie said.
Jump on the train and head to their partner location, The District in Skycity, in Adelaide’s train station.
“People often perceive the Port to be a far away place, but now they can get out here in under 20 mins!”
The owners call the re-newed line a “massive win for the community” and are keen to welcome even more visitors to Port Adelaide in the coming months after the SA Government funded the $51 million Port Dock Railway Line Project.
In one of the biggest enhancements of public transport capacity the state has seen, the re-established the 1km line and train station – decommissioned in 1981 – will provide rail services for those who already call the area home and the many more set to live, work and visit Port Adelaide into the future. It will also serve as an important destination station for visitors to the Port’s tourist attractions and commercial centre.
Opening on the 25th August, the new spur rail line now runs from the existing Outer Harbor line at Grand Junction Road. As part of the project, a new Port Dock Railway Station and plaza at Baker Street, and bus interchange at the existing Lipson Street car park also rose at the site.
The regulars are also getting around the Beer Train, on the Pirate Life Facebook, Stephen commented “Awesome… Just AWESOME… beers THEN footy!” Meanwhile, Graham is looking forward to the expected boost to local business’.
Deputy SA Premier and Member for Port Adelaide, Susan Close says the revitalisation of the line will “make it easier for people who live here or plan to live here to get into the city, for work, for fun, to go to the footy or to connect with the wider transport network”.
It will also “bring trains back into the heart of the historic Port, providing better access for residents and visitors to local museums and tourist attractions,” Susan said.
Port Dock train – or the Beer Train – will operate every 30 minutes on weekdays and weekends, stopping at all stops.
