English synth-pop group Hot Chip have announced a run of DJ shows in Indonesia and Australia over the summer, bringing their exciting electronic grooves to ten venues across the nation. Founding duo Alexis Taylor and Joe Goddard will be travelling around the country over the New Years period playing a feast of DJ sets, rounding off their travels with two South Australian shows in January 2025.
Kicking off with a performance in Bali on the 28th of December, Hot Chip will be travelling through Australia to play ten shows in both major cities and regional or coastal towns. Following sets in Western Australia, New South Wales, and Victoria, the duo will head down south to wrap up their tour with performances at the Adelaide UniBar on January 10th and the Yeo Haus surf shop in Port Elliot on the 11th. The full list of dates is pictured below:
Formed in London in 2000 as a bedroom recording project for founding members Alexis Taylor and Joe Goddard, Hot Chip usually consists of five multi-instrumentalists for live performances and recordings. This Australian cycle sees Taylor and Goddard temporarily separating from the rest of the pack to perform in Australia as a DJ duo.
The multi-award-winning group primarily produces synth-pop and alternative dance music, often inflecting sounds from the house and disco genres into their eccentric studio recordings. After EP releases in 2001 and 2002, the band unleashed their debut record Coming on Strong in 2004.
During this period, the band added members Owen Clarke, Felix Martin, and Al Doyle while they began working on their second album, and record deals were signed with DFA Records and EMI. The band have subsequently released eight full-length albums, including Mercury Prize-nominated The Warning (2006), One Life Stand (2010), Why Make Sense? (2015), A Bath Full of Ecstasy (2019). Their most recent album, Freakout/Release, was released in 2022 and peaked at number one on the UK Dance Album and Independent Album charts.
