Hotel Grand Chancellor re-opens in heart of the CBD

Swim in open-deck pools, wine, dine and unwind at the Hotel Grand Chancellor, which reopened after spending almost two years operating as a medi-hotel.

The Hotel Grand Chancellor is re-opening after being closed to the public for almost two years!

Ready to welcome back long-time holiday-goers and new faces to the Hindley Street destination, the hotel is a buzz as they gear up to re-open for the vibrant city crowds after helping the wider community by being a medi-hotel.

“It’s really exciting, there’s a great buzz around the hotel,” says General Manager Tony Scrivener.

“It’s exciting for us to get back into it…it sounds weird, but we had a conversation with the chefs the other day, and they hadn’t plated a meal in 18 months.”

The 4.5-star hotel is nestled in the heart of Adelaide’s city and equal distance from the iconic Central Markets and Adelaide Oval – making it the perfect base for a city staycation. Situated at the doorstep of Adelaide’s award-winning restaurants, renowned small bar scene, museums and galleries, there are plenty of opportunities to soak up the vibrant culture of Adelaide.

But if you’re anything like us – your favourite part of a hotel holiday is the R&R that derives from staying in the luxurious rooms, indulging in breakfasts and utilising the Hotel Grand Chancellor’s amenities.

Take a trip to the rooftop pool – fitted with a poolside bar – dip your toes in the heated water and enjoy a cocktail (or two). Indulge at the elegant Bistro Sixy5 and in glasses of wine from SA’s outstanding wine labels, including Henschke, Rockfords and Penfolds.

Sweat it out at the 24-hour gym, have a nip of local gin from the impressive Sebastyan’s bar, or even park your car in the underground parking.

Say goodbye to the traditional buffet breakfast, and enter the buffet tower – a love letter to our two favourite things: a high tea and brunch. Ironically named Not a Buffet, the three-tiered stand is perfect for a sweet tooth or a savoury lover.

From pancakes to ice cream and a berry compote, a selection of light and fluffy pastries, and your classic big breakfast (think scrambled eggs, bacon and all the trimmings) – you’ll be fuelled for your day ahead. Not a Buffet is replacing the usual buffet style breakfast synonymous with hotel stays – the unique twist means you’re super safe when tucking into your early morning feed.

The Hotel Grand Chancellor boasts an impressive 80 per cent return rate, with guests from interstate naturally gravitating to the buzz of the CBD and the friendly atmosphere the hotel offers.

“A key thing about us is that the staff here go above and beyond… the staff are renowned,” says Scrivener.

“The staff really care. Even when we were a medi-hotel, it was a thing noted. We had people not wanting to leave.”

At the crux of Hotel Grand Chancellor lies a passion to champion South Australia, and showcase the best of our state right down to its finer furnishings. You’ll find crowd favourites Haigh’s Chocolates and Farmers Union Iced Coffee stocked in the digital mini shop too – gifting travellers a slice of South Australia or home away from home for local staycationers.

“We want people to remember we haven’t forgotten about you – we’re the same if not better than we used to be,” says Scrivener.

“We’re excited to do what we do best.”

The world may have changed, but our love for incredible city staycations hasn’t.
