What comes to mind when we name popular Adelaide venues like Anchovy Bandit, Bottega Bandito, The Stag Public House, and NOLA?
What we think of is great local haunts, and Adelaide hospo powerhouse The Big Easy Group has had a hand in all of them, either running the place or lending their expertise.
Now some big news has come as The Big Easy Group’s House of George posted that they would shut up shop for good on 9 June.
“After nearly six unforgettable years as one of Adelaide’s favourite late-night tavernas, it’s time for George’s Last Dance. Since 2019, we’ve been slinging cold ouzo, loud laughs, and even louder dinners — but now, House of George will officially close its doors on Monday, 9th June. Not before one final month of celebrations – George-style!” the post said.
“This will be your last chance to dine with George. We’re going out with a bang and giving this journey the send-off it truly deserves. Keep your eyes out for more details.”

Before closing, House of George will bring back some of its most popular menu items over the six-year run. Free ouzo shots will be served all weekend on May 24 and 25, so get in on the celebration and put back a few anise-flavoured aperitifs.
Not long after the announcement though, managing director Oliver Brown confirmed the venue will not remain empty for long.
“The reality? After six incredible years of George, it’s time to evolve,” Brown said on social media.
“We’ve been planning this move for months, not to close a venue, but to bring a new idea to life. Hospitality is about creating experiences, and sometimes that means making space for something new, fresh, and exciting.”
While it’s sad to see the curtain close on the impressive journey House of George has been on, we’re pretty excited to see what Big Easy will conjure up next. The space is set to reopen around two weeks later with a completely new direction.
“We had a strong concept without a home… now it has one,” Brown continued.

The new concept will toe the line on white tablecloth dining, but as is customary with Big Easy venues, it’ll give its best modern spin on the concept. Refined and relaxed is what they’re going for.
Originally Yiasou George, House of George is getting a fond farewell from Oliver Brown. In the social media post he said:
“House of George has been a joy, a venue built for laughs, ouzo, and fire. And while we’re saying goodbye to the disco ball, the party won’t be stopping.”
“To everyone who’s been part of the George journey: thank you. Your support made this evolution possible, and we can’t wait to show you what’s next.”
“Come raise a glass with us before June 9, and say goodbye to George as you know it.”
House of George was always one of the liveliest spots in town, with staff full of character and a mix of levels that gave the venue a truly multi-dimensional feel. And I for one, will definitely miss that ouzo.
So while we wait for another slick and original take on the Adelaide dining scene, there are still a few weeks to swing by the venue, tuck into fire-fuelled Mediterranean dishes, and make the most of the space before House of George shuts for good.
