Hove woman’s bad day turns to gold with $50K win at local pub

Turning a bad day around, a Hove woman won a $50,000 Keno jackpot during a spontaneous dinner at the pub.

A Hove woman’s bad day took a dramatic turn for the better when she won a Keno Spot 8 jackpot of $50,000. The win occurred in draw 240611 855 on Wednesday, 12 June 2024. The South Australian could scarcely believe her luck, describing her windfall as the best outcome possible to an otherwise dreary day.

Upon speaking to a Lott official, the winner said “I’m pretty stoked! I had a really rough day at work, so I decided to have dinner at the pub. I rang my partner and said, ‘Meet me at the pub!’ We played a couple of games of Keno and then, out of the blue, we won the Spot 8!”

“Thank you so much. I’m so grateful. It’s the best thing to come out of a bad day!”

The lucky winner purchased her ticket at Bay Motel Hotel, located at 58 Broadway, Glenelg.

When asked about her plans for the winnings, the woman shared her intentions for an upcoming holiday, to help her family, and indulge in some well-deserved treats. “It’s such a nice surprise. We can buy some things we wouldn’t normally buy for ourselves and just live it up! We have an upcoming holiday planned so there will be no restrictions! Of course, I’ll help my family too,” she elaborated.

Keno players in South Australia have seen substantial wins in the past year. In 2023, more than 1.52 million Keno prizes were awarded across the state, totalling over $87.5 million. Among these, 33 lucky winners in South Australia hit the Keno Spot 8, 9 and 10 jackpots, sharing more than $7.44 million in prize money. Notably, the Spot 10 jackpot was claimed three times during this period, with one winner taking home a staggering $2.3 million.

Keno, a popular game in Australia, involves selecting numbers in hopes they match the randomly generated ones during the draw. Players select up to 10 numbers from a possible 80. To win the top Spot 10 prize, all 10 chosen numbers must match the 20 numbers drawn.

This Keno Spot 8 win adds to a series of recent lottery successes in South Australia. As reported earlier by Glam Adelaide, other significant lottery wins have also occurred in the area, including a Moonta grandfather who clinched a monumental $4.8 million, and the South Aussie who took out the $150m Powerball, Australia’s largest lottery win ever.
