How Do You Picture Adelaide?

Ever thought that a patch of vacant land could be a children’s park, or that the city could be home to more street art? Love the Fringe, the Rundle Lantern and the leafy streets? Want to change something in your neighbourhood? Now is the time to speak up!

Adelaide City Council wants to know what people love about the city of Adelaide, what they would like to see improved, and what they what they would like to see created.

Launched today in Rundle Mall by Julian ‘Jules’ Schiller and Lord Mayor Stephen Yarwood, is the Council’s ‘Picture Adelaide’ campaign.

The campaign encourages all South Australians to get involved in creating their city.

“We want people to be part of the big picture, and there are some really exciting ways to get involved. This is a new way for people to have a say,” Stephen said.

Information gathered will be used to shape a vision for the city and is the first step in developing Council’s 2012-2016 strategic plan.

“Adelaide is a fantastic place, but I’m sure there are ideas out there that can make it even better, and contribute to a strong vision for the future,” Stephen said.

“We’ll be mailing reply-paid postcards to city residents, and they’ll also be popping up in cafés and venues around town, so if you see one please take five minutes to jot down your ideas and send them in.”

On Saturday 16 April, the Picture Adelaide crew will head to the Central Market and North Adelaide Village to find out what shoppers and residents love, want to improve, or want to create in the City of Adelaide.

More Picture Adelaide activities are planned for late April and May, including the launch of an iPhone app through which people can take photos, map things and places in the City they love and want to improve or images that reflect what they want to see created.

Cameras will also be provided to community organisations to document images of what they love, want to see created or improved.
