Adelaide is well and truly in the midst of its busiest season, with the Adelaide Fringe officially kicking off last week, Mad March just around the corner and a flurry of events still to come. If you’re anything like me and cannot get enough of the action, staying among it all will be calling your name.
Last weekend, I was invited by IHG Hotels & Resorts to experience the opening weekend of the Adelaide Fringe in style, with a staycation at the gorgeous Hotel Indigo Adelaide Markets. I grabbed a group of girlfriends, and we enjoyed the ultimate city girls’ night, with all the Fringe action and classic IHG Hotels & Resorts hospitality you could imagine.

We kicked everything off on Friday afternoon by checking into the hotel. Located in the heart of the Market Precinct in Adelaide’s west, Hotel Indigo Adelaide Markets is tucked away on Market Street, just a minute or two from the Adelaide Central Market.
When you walk through the doors, you’re met with bright pinks, quirky architecture and funky design, which make you feel right at home. The friendly staff walked us through the easy check-in process and made sure we got to our room without any issues. The room itself was spacious, with fantastic views of the city. The bed was huge and very comfortable, and the bathroom had great amenities and enough space for a group of girls to get ready, which, if you know anything about girls in their early twenties, is very important.

Once we had settled into the room and fought over which side of the bed we would each take, IHG Hotels & Resorts organised for us to attend the VIP Fringe Launch. Here, we got a sneak peek of what was to come at this year’s Adelaide Fringe and heard from organisers and industry leaders.
After the launch, we made our way back to the hotel and up to the pool on level four to enjoy a bit of sunshine before dinner. Just as you would expect, the pool deck was as funky as the rest of the hotel. There were plenty of outdoor plants housed in brightly coloured planter boxes, art hanging on the exposed brick, and enough sun loungers for everyone to enjoy the view.

After our afternoon swim, we headed upstairs for drinks and dinner at Merrymaker, Hotel Indigo Adelaide Markets’s popular rooftop bar. Once again packed with bright colours and interesting design details, we settled into a booth overlooking the city. We enjoyed cocktails, spritzes and dinner as the sun went down. There was a DJ spinning tunes, and the bar was packed with holidaymakers and groups of locals enjoying post-work Friday drinks – what better way to welcome the weekend!
The upstairs menu was relaxed, with grazing platters, arancini balls, cheese boards, paninis and pizzas. Paired with their great range of specialty cocktails, this was the perfect, relaxed way to start an evening in the city.

After dinner, we headed back to the room to freshen up before heading out for a night at the Fringe. Hotel Indigo Adelaide Markets is about a 30-minute walk from the East End Fringe precincts, so if you’re dressed to impress, we recommend grabbing an Uber or using public transport.
We spent our evening strolling around Gluttony and The Garden of Unearthly Delights, exploring the magic and mystery that hides inside. There are so many fantastic pop-up activations and bars that you should check out while you’re there, but we found ourselves dancing away the night at the free Piano Bar in the Garden.

The next morning, we checked out Market & Meander for breakfast. They have classic continental and à la carte options. We enjoyed the salmon and avocado toast and French toast off the à la carte menu, plus delicious coffees and juices. After a late night, there was no better way to recover!
Before checking out, we headed over to the Adelaide Central Markets. It was a very bustling Saturday morning, and there were so many great things to check out. From showstopping pastries and international cheeses to fresh produce and coffee, we would highly recommend heading over when staying at Hotel Indigo Adelaide Markets.
