The devastating news from this morning that the beloved Rosemont Hall and Sunny’s Shop in Prospect has been destroyed following a vicious fire has left many wondering how they can help.

A Go Fund Me page has been organised by Evangeline Batalha, Mai Nguyen and Courtney Schultz in the wake of the tragedy, encouraging support to aid in the costs of the damages and loss that owner, Aaron Ratanatray and his family have endured.

The Go Fund Me page reads:

“Anybody who has been to Sunny’s Shop or Rosemont Hall for a sit-down lunch or dinner can vouch for the passion and flair that is put into the food and dining experience…they were the heart and soul of Aaron, Tamara and their family.”

The popular restaurant which served from two kitchens, Sunny’s Shop and Mr Chan offered a pulsating and lively hub on Prospect Road, serving as an adored meeting place for the community. Authentic food and tasteful, exciting decorations offered an immersive and memorable experience, inspired by Thailand’s bustling laneways and vibrant food.

The Rosemont Hall team and family in took to Instagram today writing, “we are still processing this unimaginable and devastating event and trying to come to terms with it…we are deeply touched and thank you for your thoughts and solidarity during this difficult time.”

It took a year to set up Rosemont Hall and year before that to bring Sunny’s Shop to life. The fire has a reported $1 million in damages, destroying one of the oldest buildings on Prospect Road.

Distraught locals have expressed their grief on the City of Prospect’s Facebook page.

“This was a gorgeous building and business” one user wrote. “My heart goes out to the family.”

“I have been there so many times, great food and ambience, contributed so much to the Prospect Road Precinct. Such a shame what has happened.”
