A major new community project is set to open in Mount Barker this August, with the launch of the Summit Aquatic and Leisure Centre.
Backed by Mount Barker District Council, the centre will provide locals with year-round access to a heated indoor pool, fitness facilities, and dedicated spaces for families and community groups.
The facility includes an upstairs health club with modern equipment, indoor pools with ramp access, a kids zone for supervised children’s activities, and community meeting rooms. The centre will also have a large cafe area, with plenty of space to sit and grab a coffee.
The project has been designed for a range of activities, including lap swimming, swim school programs, strength training, group fitness classes, and recreational sports. The design is also thoughtful towards accessibility and inclusion.
Ahead of the new centre’s launch, many locals swam at the Mount Barker Mountain Pool, which closed earlier this year after 70 years of service. To mark the end of an era, the council hosted an extra cute dog swim day in April, giving doggies the chance to splash around before the pool was decommissioned. 65 dogs were in attendance, and a strong turnout of locals came to say goodbye. While the original pool has now closed, the new Summit facility is giving the community a much-needed upgrade.
Memberships for the new centre are already open, with offers available for sign-ups before the official opening. New members will avoid joining fees and will even receive a neat piece of bonus merchandise.
The facility is set to open in August, bringing a state-of-the-art new local spot for swimming, fitness, and community activities in the Hills.
