Huge win as Fleurieu Gin finally open doors after lengthy legal battle

After a taxing legal process over the last few years, Fleurieu Gin are ready to move forward after receiving their liquor license.

The family behind Fleurieu Gin, one of the region’s most exciting new venues, is finally ready to move forward after receiving their liquor license this past week. A “taxing process” is finally over, and the family-owned business has officially opened the doors of their family-friendly destination on the Fleurieu.

“A huge thank you to our incredible legal team, our amazing family, friends, and of course, YOU—our loyal community and supporters. Your encouragement over these past challenging months has been nothing short of incredible and humbling”, the team said on social media.

After a legal saga plagued with appeals over the last couple years, the license was granted following an appeal in the liquor license court on Thursday. Now, the team behind this blossoming distillery is on the cusp of revealing their official opening hours, with plans to trade five days a week.

“We’re very excited. All the feedback we’ve had has been very positive on days we’ve been open under a restricted license”, says Shane Magor, one head of this family-operated business.

“Everyone loves the family friendly space. We’ve got lots for kids to do, like putt-putt and a golf tee off area. There are plenty of games for family and children to play”.

Myponga locals Shane and Kylie Magor are the driving forces behind this ambitious, brand-new destination, which started with a simple gin and tonic and has blossomed into a full-fledged distillery

The distillery is truly a family affair, with the couple’s son, Josh, bringing expertise from his time at the Victory Hotel in Sellicks Beach. “While the Fleurieu is celebrated for its world-class wineries and cellar doors, there aren’t many options for gin lovers. By drawing on our family farm and award-winning gin, we hope to bridge that gap,” Josh says.

With local food trucks, live music, and a tapas-style kitchen serving lunch, Fleurieu Gin is shaping up to be a destination for the whole community.

“There is something for everyone here, with our beautiful, grassed area, bocce green, driving range and outdoor space perfect for families wanting a relaxed day out,” Kylie says.

Since January 2023, the site has been undergoing a major transformation, with no expense spared. The new facility features a cellar door for tastings and tours, a restaurant, and a function space, with plans to extend opening hours for functions until midnight, incorporate live music, and introduce a terrace bar.

With its breathtaking location, family-friendly atmosphere, and dedication to quality, Fleurieu Gin is now a must-visit destination on the Fleurieu Peninsula.
