Hugh Jackman joins Australian icons in new documentary to raise awareness on Skin Cancer

Conquering Skin Cancer brings together celebrities, survivors, and advocates to spotlight Australia’s fight against skin cancer.

Hollywood A-lister, Hugh Jackman is set to join forces with Olympian swimmer Cate Campbell, media icon Deborah Hutton, World Champion Surfer Wayne ‘Rabbit’ Bartholomew, and 2024 Australians of the Year Professors Richard Scolyer and Georgina Long, in new documentary Conquering Skin Cancer.

Australia has the highest rate of skin cancer in the world, yet many Australians still underestimate the dangers of excessive UV exposure. Conquering Skin Cancer is on a mission to prevent it.

According to Cancer Council, two in every three Australians will get a skin cancer in their lifetimes, and the WHO predicts a staggering 68% increase in melanoma deaths by 2040. Australia has one of the highest skin cancer rates in the world. However, 98% of skin cancers can be prevented.

The film calls for action in prevention efforts, greater access to life-saving care, and crucial investments in cutting-edge treatments and research. Produced by multi-award-winning filmmakers and impact film pioneers Mike Hill and Sue Collins, Conquering Skin Cancer is a treasure trove of incredible stories captured across Australia.

Alongside the beloved voices and skin cancer survivors, the film also spotlights amazing activists such as Jay Allen (Australia Skin Cancer Foundation), Tamara Dawson (Melanoma and Skin Cancer Advocacy Network), Scott Maggs (Skin Check Champions) and Anne Gately (Author, “Sunburnt”); who candidly share their inspirational stories in the pursuit of positive change.

Through the telling of compelling and emotional stories from survivors, advocates, and world-leading experts, Conquering Skin Cancer explores how everybody can live safely under the sun. From self-image and survival, to beauty trends and climate change, Conquering Skin Cancer explores our complex relationship with the sun.

Conquering Skin Cancer will be officially released on November 20th, which is also the first day of National Skin Cancer Awareness Week.

The documentary will have a theatrical release through Event Cinemas (NSW, QLD, WA, SA), Village Cinemas (VIC, TAS), and independent regional cinemas across the country.
