ICEHOUSE To Play McLaren Vale This November At Gorgeous Festival

This November 26th sees the very first annual Gorgeous Festival that’s not just a music festival showcasing the best of Australian music but a chance to experience all that the McLaren Vale region has to offer. Gorgeous Festival will stand out from the pack and focus on the entire festival experience with the best music, food and wine available in the most idyllic surroundings on the Fleuieu Peninsula in South Australia.

Gorgeous Festival boasts an eclectic line up featuring a diverse range of acts, stylistically the music will be contemporary roots, folk, blues and indigenous with the festival providing a stage for well known  acts. Gorgeous will also feature two stages (Petit Rosso & Petit Bianco) for emerging original musicians with 6 of the 8 slots reserved for South Australian musicians ensuring the festival has a local feel.

Headlining Gorgeous Festival this year will be ICEHOUSE with lead vocalist and founder Iva Davies. For over 30 years, Icehouse have had a consistent presence in the Australian and international music scene, with over 3 million albums sold locally and 9 million sold internationally, eight top 10 albums and over thirty Top 40 singles in Australia, USA, Canada, Britain and Europe.  Today ICEHOUSE continues to make their mark on the Australian music scene with the band recently headlining performances at Sound Relief and a special guest appearance at the Big Day Out and have just recently released the 30th Anniversary edition of Flowers ICEHOUSE album.

“Icehouse hasn’t played in South Australia for almost 20 years. When we were asked to play in the beautiful McLaren Vale, early in summer, I jumped at the chance! Then to be told that we’d be working with the likes of Josh Pyke (I’m a fan!) and great new acts like emma louise and Busby Marou makes it even more of an event for us to get fired up by. I’m sure it will be a wonderful day and night.” Iva Davies

Josh Pyke is one of Australia’s premier singer/songwriters. Known for his ability to weave intelligent lyrics with warm melodies and quirky song structures, Pyke is a modern-day storyteller whose unique and evocative use of both words and music places him in a league of his own. With a swag of ARIA Awards, Josh is set to release his third album Only Sparrows in August this year and his much anticipated performance on the Gorgeous stage will be undoubtedly, one of the festival highlights.

Another act on a fast trajectory on the music scene that Gorgeous Festival is excited about presenting is Queenslander emma louise who’s debut single ‘Jungle’ went straight to high rotation on Triple J followed by the release of her EP Full Hearts & Empty Rooms garnering much attention and taking her on her first national tour – emma louise is definitely one act to watch out for on the Gorgeous lineup.

Also gracing the stage at Gorgeous Festival will be acts from across the country including upcoming QLD act Busby Marou, recently signed to Warner Music’s indie imprint Footstomp Records and have released their debut self titled album to critical acclaim.

Victorian folk rock band Snowy Belfast, a young band showing a depth of character and maturity well beyond their years and with the release of their new single, are set to be unstoppable in 2011.

Local (Willunga) lad Peter Arthur brings his band Junior to the Gorgeous main stage. With American tours and swag of festival appearances in Australia they are certainly not out of their depth on the Gorgeous line up.

With more acts and details of Gorgeous Food and Wine to be announced soon, the Gorgeous Festival is shaping up to be everything it’s name suggests with its goal to make every element of the festival sumptuous, boutique, intimate and memorable.
