Fringe News: ICONIC – A Brief History of Drag

ICONIC, a Brief History of Drag is a run through of drag culture and iconography in popular culture.

After a sell out run through the UK and Australia the show, featuring English drag queen Ian Stroughair, makes its debut at Adelaide Fringe.

Stroughair, performing as Velma, transverses various periods and genres with references to Bowie, Boy George, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga and Tina Turner within the prism of drag culture. He describes the show as “a monster drag review dedicated to all those camp classics.”

ICONIC has yielded five star reviews worldwide on the back of Velma’s incredible vocals and the rich emotional journey of the show from the most hilarious of scenes to the touching tear jerker moments.

Stroughair is no stranger to big stage success, having performed in huge hit productions like Cats, Fame and Chicago and was singled out for special acclaim for his role in Rent. He wrote Iconic whilst lounging by a hotel pool in Tanzania.

ICONIC Runs on March 6, 8-11, 13, 15-17 at Parasol Lounge at Gluttony.
