Iconic Barossa winery crowned Australia’s Best Still Wine Producer in Germany

An iconic Barossa Valley winery has been awarded the title of ‘Best Producer Still Wine Australia’ at the Berliner Wine Trophy in Germany.

Iconic Barossa Valley winery Château Tanunda has been awarded the title of ‘Best Producer Still Wine Australia’ at the Berliner Wine Trophy, one of Germany’s most respected international wine challenges. This is the 14th time the winery has taken home this prestigious title.

To win this award, wineries must achieve the best results from both the winter and summer editions of the competition. Château Tanunda stood out with a Grand Gold Medal and 12 Gold Medals in the winter edition, followed by several Gold Medals in the summer edition. Among the winning wines were the 100 Year Old Vines Shiraz 2021, which earned the Grand Gold, and a range of Gold Medal-winning wines such as the 50 Year Old Vines Shiraz 2021, 50 Year Old Vines Cabernet Sauvignon 2021, and wines from the Grand Barossa and Terroirs of the Barossa collections.

“We are so honoured to be named as Australia’s Best Still Wine Producer at the Berliner Wine Trophy for the 14th time here at Château Tanunda,” Managing Director and family member of Château Tanunda, Michelle Geber, said.

“We are proud to share the premium Australian wine story with our global wine markets and to receive such an accolade, let alone so consecutively, is a testament to the quality of Barossa wines on the international stage.”

The Berliner Wine Trophy is a highly regarded competition that attracts over 14,000 wines from 40 countries. Wines are blind-tasted by a jury of experts, including oenologists, sommeliers, and wine critics, and judged using a 100-point system. The competition also implements the “30% rule,” to make sure that only the top 30% of wines are awarded medals.

Château Tanunda’s recent success further showcases its reputation as a champion of fine Australian wines. The winery’s range of award-winning wines, including the Grand Barossa Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 and the Terroirs of the Barossa Eden Valley Shiraz 2022, are now available for purchase from Château Tanunda’s website and cellar doors.
