Iconic cinema to close its doors after four decades

Murray Bridge’s Cameo Cinema will be closing its doors this July after 47 years.

Murray Bridge’s beloved Cameo Cinema has announced they will be shutting their doors at the end of July.

The cinema took to Facebook to announce the closure, with many locals leaving comments of support.

“After a lot of thought and a heavy heart Cameo Cinema Murray Bridge will be shutting its doors. The curtains will close for the last time on Sunday 28th July 2024.

“After 47 years working in an industry that is traditionally busy over family/holiday times we are choosing to step back and enjoy these wholeheartedly.

“We wish to thank our community for all their support and encourage you to make the most of one more cameo experience before we close.”

The cinema was a go-to for many Murray Bridge and surround families, with many reminiscing about seeing their first film as a child to then taking their own children to see the latest film on the big screen.

South Australia has said goodbye to many iconic cinema locations over the last couple of years, including the Mainline Drive-in at Gepps Cross.

The owners welcome inquiries from individuals genuinely interested in acquiring the business or purchasing the property.

If you’re keen to get your last bucket of popcorn, Cameo Cinema will be showing a lineup of 10 films leading up to their closing date, featuring titles such as Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, The Garfield Movie, Despicable Me 4, and A Quiet Place: Day One.
