Iconic Mortlock Library to host ‘Small Batch’ spirit tasting event

South Australian distilleries will be in good spirits at the Small Batch: A Spirit Tasting Event’ at the State Library Mortlock Chamber.

The incredible Mortlock Wing at the State Library of South Australia will soon play host to a special event: ‘Small Batch: A Spirit Tasting Event.’

For one night only, people can enjoy an evening of tasting spirits from smaller South Australian distilleries and spirit makers, with some more well-known names set to make an appearance along with some newer names to the scene.

Small Batch is the launch event for Maze Events, the brainchild of founder Ross Tindale, who is keen to kick things off this weekend.

“I’m very proud of South Australia and our food, wine and art, and I thought it would be a great idea to get people out and encourage them to support the smaller distilleries. It is going to be a great night out,” Ross says.

“The boom of gin over the last decade as patrons’ drink of choice over pre-mix spirits, Small Batch gives smaller emerging distilleries the ability to showcase their products without having to be stocked at large venues around Australia.”

“The Mortlock Wing is a truly beautiful building and I think whenever everybody goes inside they will see that too, so it is showing off one of South Australia’s acclaimed landmarks.”

Distilleries will be full of good spirit at the Small Batch event, giving people the opportunity to try their products and maybe find a new favourite.

“I think the surge of gin popularity over the last decade has really brought spirits into the limelight. It is a great opportunity to give South Australian distillers the ability to show off their products,” Ross says.

“In South Australia we know there are gin distillers, there are some big names that have come out of South Australia, but the fact there are rum, scotch and whisky distilleries in SA might surprise South Australians.”

Ross says this event will be the beginning of a series, with another possible two next year and continuing into the future.

“Expect to see more events in line with Small Batch, but maybe not just spirits in the near future,” he says.

Small Batch will be a prime opportunity for people to experience the variety of spirits available. And with spirits ranging from gin, to scotch, to rum, and vodka may also make an appearance, so there will be something to suit all tastes.

“Distillery doors maybe don’t have as much exposure as some of the wineries, so getting some of the smaller distilleries’ names out in the community might help people to try something new,” Ross says.
