One of South Australia’s most iconic venues, Seppeltsfield, has been recognised on the national stage, securing silver for ‘Tourism Wineries, Distilleries & Breweries’ at the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards.
The Barossa business was one of 10 SA businesses recognised at the prestigious event which celebrates excellence across 26 categories, recognising the best in the nation’s tourism industry.
“Thank you to our wonderful team who deliver a truly world class experience for each and every one of our customers,” the esteemed winery wrote in their social media.
Bangor Vineyard Shed in Tasmania took home the Gold while Billson’s Brewery in Victoria was awarded bronze.
Established in the Barossa Valley just 15 years after the European settlement of South Australia, Seppeltsfield holds a significant place in the history of Australian winemaking.
The vineyard’s legacy dates back to the mid-19th century when Joseph Seppelt, an emigrant from Silesia, purchased the land and focused on grape growing and winemaking. Today, under the custodianship of proprietor Warren Randall, Seppeltsfield remains a true national treasure.
But, besides its great wine, the real reason Seppeltsfield secured silver is because its Estate has some outstanding tourism experiences on offer.
It’s a true mecca of SA, offering a world-class Fino restaurant which showcases local Barossa and South Australian produce, JamFactory at Seppeltsfield which provides a unique hub for craft and design in the Barossa (with acclaimed studios, galleries & shops attached), Vasse Virgin which is unique business producing skincare in an open factory on-site at Seppeltsfield, stunning accomodation and more.
That’s before you dig into its tours of the historic grounds, which you can do by foot and also by segway (perfect for groups of friends).
Seppeltsfield Cellar Door also offers visitors a range of tasting experiences, including cellar door tastings and private tour experiences through its Centennial Cellar.
Seppeltsfield actually nurtures the world’s longest and only unbroken collection (lineage) of single vintage tawny since 1878; creating a living museum of Australian winemaking history and undoubtedly the ‘jewel in the crown’ of the Seppeltsfield estate – which you can explore as a VIP during its ‘Centennial Cellar Experiences’ which the winery offer.
Shaun de Bruyn, Chairperson of the Australian Tourism Awards, commended South Australia’s tourism operators for their unwavering commitment to excellence.
“It is always a proud moment to witness tourism operators from South Australia being recognised for their outstanding commitment to excellence in their businesses and our state’s tourism industry more broadly,” he said.
“Since the introduction of an accessible tourism category in our state-based awards in 2018, South Australian tourism operators have been exemplary in embracing accessible tourism practices, setting a benchmark for the industry. This commitment to inclusivity has not only created more opportunities for people with diverse abilities to experience South Australia but has also positioned the state as a leader in driving positive change.”
