IKEA South Australia has confirmed that from Monday 4 May, the newest IKEA addition, the Veggie Ball, will be launched in store.

The veggie ball, also known as GRÖNSAKSBULLAR, is the first step to include a wider variety of healthier and more sustainable food choices at IKEA. The veggie ball consists of only vegetables, which means it has a lower environmental impact, such as a lower carbon footprint. This is a natural step for IKEA, building on the vision of creating a better everyday life for the many people.

Nigel Richardson, Marketing Manager of IKEA WA and SA, said the meatballs are being launched across the eastern seaboard in late April, but that the WA and SA markets are set to receive the new meal offering as of early May.

“The SA and WA markets will only have to wait a few extra days for the veggie balls to land in-store. We’re confident that the new IKEA menu item will be worth the wait,” Mr Richardson said.

The new veggie ball is an alternative to the traditional IKEA meatball made up of carrot, chickpeas, kale, bell peppers, other vegetables and seasoning. The veggie ball will be available from Monday 4 May in Western Australia and South Australia at the price of $7.95 for a serving size of 10 and $2.95 for the kids’ serving size of five.

Alex Riach, IKEA WA and SA Food and Beverage Manager, said customers have been forever enjoying the iconic IKEA meatballs in both WA and SA – with Australians consuming nearly 8.5 million meatballs last year.

“It’s just one of the ways that IKEA is providing a more environmentally sustainable option for the original Swedish meatballs. It won’t take long for this new traditional dish to win over our vegetarian and vegan customers.”
