Delicious-looking pasta from a near zero-waste restaurant can now be delivered right to your door; Ikigai Pasta Bar has launched on select days in Lightsview.

With gooey gnocchi gorgonzola with pine nuts and baby spinach, orecchiette with truffle oil-cooked pork sausage, and more, the pasta bar launched on this week with free local delivery. Residents of Lightsview, Northgate, Greenacres and Enfield can get Ikigai’s dishes––which also include classics such as spaghetti and meatballs, broccoli and pesto, and napolitano––delivered for free from 5pm to 8:30pm for $15 as part of the new eatery’s “lockdown special.”

Ikigai Coffee Shop and Conscious Eatery will serve up their pasta on Monday and Tuesday of this week, and they will serve pizzas on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

The new pasta bar is the latest instalment of Ikigai Organic Cafe’s ever-growing list of sustainable offerings. The year-old café and coffee shop offers daily breakfast and lunch, biweekly pizza specials on Friday nights, and packaged goods and quick bites at their shop. They specialise in coffee, smoothies, homemade peanut butter, uniquely flavoured sourdough pizzas made on-site, and more.

While Ikigai has a beautiful 100-seater space for dine-in when COVID restrictions allow, the restaurant has learned to adapt to lockdowns over its year of operation. Even during lockdown, the Lightsview restaurant offers beer and wine, fresh organic produce, local sourdough, and takeaway meals (including pasta and pizza on the designated days!) to their loyal customers.

Owner Steph Schulz says she hopes the most recent addition to the venue, the Ikigai Pasta Bar, will help warm and feed the community during lockdown.

“For people who are conscious about leaving the house, this gives people the opportunity to have a meal our without cooking to stay home and stay safe,” she says.

“It’s nice while you’re home in lockdown to have a nice winter warmer as well.”

Ikigai Coffee Shop and Conscious Eatery seeks to be a no-waste entity, offering their scraps to customers as free chook food, coffee grinds for home compost, and everything else for commercial compost.

You can find Ikigai at 191-193 Hampstead Rd, Lightsview.
