As winter settles over South Australia, the city of Adelaide prepares to come alive with a vibrant display of lights, art, and cultural experiences. Illuminate Adelaide, the premier winter event of the region, is set to captivate locals and visitors alike as it transforms the city into a beacon of creativity, innovation, and wonder.
From June 28 to July 30, the festival will immerse the streetscapes and iconic locations of Adelaide with a mesmerising program of free and ticketed events by local, national, and international artists.
The festival hub, Base Camp Bar, will be located in Rundle Park/Kadlitpina throughout the festival, offering a vibrant gathering place for attendees. Just a short walk away, the brand new “Resonate” exhibition at the Botanic Gardens will mesmerize visitors with its immersive and interactive displays.
One of the must-see installations is Airborialis in Rymill Park/Murlawirrapurka, an inflatable maze that will delight ticket holders daily from 11 am until late during the festival. This whimsical attraction promises an enchanting experience for all ages.
One of the highlights of the festival is the Winter Weekends in the East End, which coincides with the City Lights Trail of Illuminate Adelaide. Every Friday and Saturday night throughout July, Vardon Avenue and parts of Ebenezer Place will be transformed into an immersive winter experience. Visitors can enjoy live acoustic music, cozy fire pits, and extended outdoor dining at popular establishments such as East End Cellars, Mothervine, NOLA, El Cheeky Flamingo, and the Belgian Beer Café.
Meanwhile, Rundle Street and the East End precinct will be turned into a playground of color and light with the City Lights Trail. For two weeks and three weekends in July, the entire cosmopolitan strip will be adorned with art installations across multiple buildings and select locations. Festival-goers can explore the trail by foot, with Rundle Street East closed to traffic on Friday and Saturday nights.
Fire pits will light the way between each installation, and food and beverage operators, including Paper Tiger, Stag Public House, Ong Vietnamese, Daughter in Law, and Society Bar, will extend onto the street, providing a delightful array of cocktails, wine, and food to enjoy.
