Illuminate Adelaide is back this winter and has revealed its exciting program for 2024.
Celebrating the fusion of art, light music, and technology, the event will span across three consecutive weekends from Thursday July 4 to Sunday July 21, featuring a lineup of ticketed events, music performances, and captivating free installations that are set to transform Adelaide’s CBD.
The event will showcases nearly 150 artists from local, national, and international backgrounds, including 62 artists from overseas and 54 from South Australia. Highlights of the ticketed program include:
- The dynamic flaming sculptures of Fire Gardens at Adelaide Botanic Garden
- After-dark puppetry and animations in Universal Kingdom at Adelaide Zoo
- Dutch pianist Joep Beving
- Interactive digital work Eden from Berlin
- British electronic musician Max Cooper
- Unsound Adelaide featuring Sonic Youth’s Kim Gordon and UK artist The Caretaker
Illuminate’s program revolves around the renowned City Lights initiative, showcasing 40 installations and projections to explore throughout the CBD, along with a hub of food and beverages at Base Camp, now located at Lot Fourteen.
Over the course of 17 nights, City Lights will come to life every evening from 5:30pm, illuminating some of Adelaide’s cultural institutions and heritage buildings such as Government House, Bonython Hall, the Art Gallery of South Australia, and Lot Fourteen.
Now in its fourth year, Illuminate Adelaide expects to see an even bigger audience attendance, following the impressive turnout of 1.3 million people in 2023.
“South Australia’s favourite winter event saw a record attendance last year and generated more than $54 million for the state – which was another record-high for Illuminate Adelaide,” South Australian Minister for Tourism, Zoe Bettison said.
“This year the 2024 Illuminate Adelaide program features some of the most exciting creative innovators and artists the world has to offer – and we can’t wait for July when they will brighten our winter with installations, projections, performances and immersive experiences across the city for a full 18 nights,” Illuminate Adelaide’s co-founders and creative directors, Rachael Azzopardi and Lee Cumberlidge said.
This year’s Illuminate event guarantees an exciting array of interactive experiences and stunning visual displays. With a lineup of talented visionaries from both national and international backgrounds, as well as local South Australian artists, it’s sure to be an immersive experience like no other!
