Light, technology and some of the world’s most fascinating wildlife come together in a new, immersive experience that will allow guests to wander around one of Adelaide’s most iconic locations after dark.
As part of a dazzling new light and lantern installation, the magical kingdom has come to life with “Light Creatures,” an interactive event for all the family to enjoy. Elaine Benstead, Chief Executive of Zoos SA was thrilled to announce the new addition to Adelaide’s winter calendar, partnering with SA Power Networks for Illuminate’s inaugural year.
“With sky-scraping giraffe, lanterns, a wonderfully colourful underwater world and Giant Panda illuminations rolling around our Central Lawns, its a nighttime winter wonderland for everyone to enjoy, right in the city centre. To be part of the first ever Illuminate Adelaide is really special, we can’t wait for it to begin,” she says.
Light Creatures showcases the talents of local and interstate artists who were commissioned to create and decorate lanterns and illuminations that will bring the event to life whilst the zoos wildlife beds down for the night.
The zoo’s creative team have worked closely with local Kaurna and Narungga man Jack Buckskin, Anangu artist Elizabeth Close, Melbourne-based designed A Blanck Canvas, and animation studio Monkeystack to design a nighttime zoo adventure of kaleidoscope light installations. There’s a huge skink, Giant Pandas, giraffes, jellyfish, and coral coming to life in a brilliant eruption of interactive lighting effects, haze and black lights.
Guests will also be able to enjoy a selection of tasty and warming food and drink from a pop up bar and selection of food stalls to satisfy every savoury and sweet tooth.
Light Creatures will run at Adelaide Zoo from 8 July – 1 August, opening Thursday to Sunday each week.
