American-style deli by day, soon-to-be wine lounge at night – Fergie Mac’s is now open at Port Adelaide.
A chef for 30 years, owner-operator Phil Azzarello has worked around the world including in Singapore, Malaysia and second-in-charge at The Savoy in London.
His new venture with wife Daniela, Fergie Mac’s Lounge, is serving New York style sandwiches; all named after family members past and present.
There are seven varieties on the menu including Phil’s take on The Cuban (pulled pork, Virginia ham, Swiss cheese, mustard and pickle in white ciabatta) and The Reuban inspired by New York institution Katz’s Deli (corned beef, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, Russian dressed on dark rye bread).
“It’s a hardy meal in a sandwich,” Phil explains.
“The aim is to serve simple yet quality food, that will make you want to come back!”
In a rustic and industrial setting, Fergie Mac’s is also offering Allpress Coffee, a breakfast plate and sweet daily specials.
“The Port is an eclectic mix of people,” Phil says.
“We want to be a place where a tradie can get a sandwich, and locals can stop in for a cup of tea and a scone. It’s a place for everyone.”
By the end of November, Phil is planning on opening a wine lounge with a handpicked selection of South Australian wines from hard-to-find producers, with antipasto and cheeseboards.
Fergie Mac’s is located at 229 St Vincent St, Port Adelaide, and is open Tuesday to Saturday from 8.30am-2.30pm.
