Incentive scheme to bring Christmas cheer to the City of Adelaide

Funding from $2,000 to $20,000 is available as a one-off incentive to eligible applicants for window art, live music and performances, outdoor community events and small festivals, and makers markets.

The City of Adelaide is providing financial support to help fill the city with festive cheer later this year with the launch of its Christmas Incentive Scheme 2020.

The scheme is a pilot opportunity for city businesses, artists, performers and communities to bring activity to the city post-COVID 19. The funding will support experiences that celebrate Adelaide’s diverse community and dynamic city culture during the Christmas period.

Funding from $2,000 to $20,000 is available as a one-off incentive to eligible applicants for window art, live music and performances, outdoor community events and small festivals, and makers markets.

Lord Mayor of Adelaide Sandy Verschoor said that the scheme would support the city community to create some uplifting Christmas spirit after a very difficult year.

“Christmas may seem a while off yet, but we’re looking ahead with positivity and excitement to support our business and arts communities to thrive and add to our dynamic city culture during the Christmas Festival, which will start from mid-November,” said the Lord Mayor.

“We want to see our streets and laneways filled with music, festivals, events and activity and see our shop windows filled with the magic of Christmas.

“So if you have an idea of how to bring Christmas wonder and delight to the city, we’d love to hear from you.”

The funding categories are:

• Window wonderland to enhance the magic and joy of Christmas. Applications for funding to cover costs associated with sensational Christmas-themed unique art displays in Adelaide businesses’ windows of up to $2,000 will be considered.

• Live music and performances (one-off or series across different locations) that create on-street opportunities for musicians and performance artists to activate primary lanes, main streets and other open spaces including balconies near retail, food and hospitality precincts and surrounding businesses during the Christmas Festival 2020, with Christmas themed and uplifting performances

• Outdoor community events and small festivals that create public opportunities for culturally diverse, inclusive and multicultural experiences in a range of locations including Adelaide squares, parks and laneways.

• Makers Markets that create opportunities for local artists and traders to sell their work during the Christmas Festival 2020 and contribute to a lively and creative city culture.

The Christmas Incentive Scheme is open now with applications closing at midnight Sunday 13 September. Successful applicants will be notified by Monday 28 September. To find out more and to apply please go to www.cityofadelaide.com.au/christmas
