Macarons and wine in a giant barrel… it’s the sweet dream! Berg Herring Wines is now offering all lovers of wine and fine dessert!
The McLaren Vale winery has teamed up with The Macaron Bar to create a brand new experience – Macaron & Wine Pairing tasting.
This is a bucket-list MUST for macaron enthusiasts, who can indulge in three exclusive macaron flavours, unique to South Australia.
Alex, the owner of The Macaron Bar, said: “These three custom flavours are very specific and they’re not something you can get anywhere else, which is awesome”.
The macarons complement Berg Herring Wines’ Fiano, Rosé and Grenache, with Chloe Fitzgerald – co-owner of the winery – saying they were keen to showcase a variety of wines.
This is the adventure you’re in for: go on a mini tropical getaway with the Fiano, paired with a pineapple hazelnut macaron, before sinking your teeth into a strawberry cheesecake macaron with the Rosé. And then there’s the love story between the Grenache and the rich dark chocolate macaron, complete with freeze dried raspberry (please excuse us if we’re drooling).
But the real spark to the recipe sits in the wine-based gel centre, as each macaron is infused with their accompanying wine.
They’re the pairings we didn’t know we needed, and we’d like to personally thank Instagram for inspiring Chloe to form this new partnership.
“We wanted to do something really special with our wines and use a variety of white, rose and red. I’d been following The Macaron Bar for quite some time, so when I was scrolling through my feed and saw their delicious macarons came up, I decided to reach out,” she said.
For the team at The Macaron Bar – a hidden gem in Christies Beach – this was the perfect challenge, with their flair for brain-melting creations showcased in their new range of flavours released weekly.
“We sat down, tried the wines, and discussed the flavours and profiles. Then we spent about two months of trial and error to perfect the recipes. Now, we’re really excited that the experience has launched,” Alex said.
At this point you’re probably thinking, where does the giant barrel come into it? Well, the Macaron & Wine Pairings will be hosted in Berg Herring Wines’ cosy tasting pods. The pods refer to two gigantic, repurposed wine barrels, ideal for four people looking for a little escape.
“At first, we used them for seating. Then we received a grant for the ‘Cellar Door Unique Experience’, and that’s when we decided to turn them into tasting pods,” Chloe said.
“We’re trying to change it up twice a year and rotate through interesting tasting experiences.”
The wine barrel tasting pods were launched in February this year and are designed for groups of two to four people.
Berg Herring Wines is a small batch, premium winery in Sellicks Beach with a focus on emerging varieties. You’ll find their boutique cellar door in a converted heritage sandstone chapel, first built in 1862.
The Macaron & Wine Pairing tasting experience is available until 28th February 2023. There are four time slots available at 12:00pm, 1:30pm, 3:00pm and 4:30pm, Friday – Monday.
Bookings are $25 per person and can be made here.
Berg Herring Wines is located at Lot 21 Sellicks Beach Road, Sellicks Beach 5174.
