Indulge with bubbles and caviar bumps at Karrawatta for decadent Friday nights in the Hills

On the second Friday of each month, Bubbles & Bumps will transform afternoons in Meadows into a celebration of sparkling wine, caviar, and South Australia’s finest oysters.

This spring and summer, Karrawatta’s Sophie’s Hill Cellar Door is inviting guests to indulge in something very luxurious. On the second Friday of each month, Bubbles & Bumps will transform afternoons in Meadows into a celebration of sparkling wine, caviar, and South Australia’s finest oysters.

At the heart of the experience is Karrawatta’s Popsie Sparkling Blanc de Blanc, an aperitif-style sparkling wine crafted in the traditional method. As Marketing and Events Manager Kate Schlichting explains, “Our Popsie Sparkling Blanc de Blanc is an aperitif-style sparkling wine, crafted in the traditional method. Its bright acidity, fine mineral notes and elegant bubbles make it the perfect match for oysters and caviar.”

Karrawatta has taken its time to get this pairing right, sampling different caviar varieties from around the world before choosing the Oscietra from French producer Kaviari, known for its sustainability and premium quality. “Oscietra is such a premium choice, but it’s also a wonderful entry into the world of caviar,” Kate says. “It has this complex, nutty, buttery flavour with a delicate pop on the palate. We really want people to see it as an exciting and luxurious experience, not something intimidating. Just take it in small bites, let it melt and unfold, and enjoy the delicacy of it.” 

Guests can expect to enjoy their caviar bumps served the classic way – straight from the back of the hand with a mother of pearl spoon to preserve the flavour – or indulge with tins available for purchase.

The concept came from one of Karrawatta’s owners, Ali Gilbert, inspired by a love of bubbles and the release of Popsie’s 2021 vintage. It was about creating an experience that feels as indulgent as it is memorable. “What better way to finish your busy week than with a decadent glass of Popsie in one hand and a bump of caviar or a freshly shucked Coffin Bay oyster in the other?”

While the sparkling and seafood will take centre stage, guests can also build their own cheese and charcuterie boards with an international selection curated to bring a different edge to Adelaide Hills cellar door grazing.

Running from 4pm to 7pm, Bubbles & Bumps is perfectly timed to help guests ease from afternoon into evening, whether gathered with friends on the lawns or tucked inside the stylish cellar door. There’s even talk of DJs and live music as the summer sessions roll in.

Bubbles & Bumps will run on Friday 10 October, Friday 14 November, Friday 12 December, Friday 9 January, Friday 13 February, and Friday 13 March. For those chasing a little sparkle with their summer, this is the kind of cellar door experience that lingers long after the last glass is poured.
