International Cruise Voyages Finally Kick Off From Adelaide!

Finally there’s an answer to your cruise-y prayers that’ll have you screaming ‘Bon Voyage!’ from the deck of the boat in no time.

There’s nothing more luxurious than an international cruise, but having to travel to Sydney or Melbourne before you’ve even stepped foot on the boat? Not ideal, especially when you’re on the older side, have pesky kids in tow, or are short on time or cash. But finally, there’s an answer to your cruise-y prayers that’ll have you screaming ‘Bon Voyage!’ from the deck of the boat in no time.

Princess Cruises’ spectacular Golden Princess made history this week as the first cruise ship to ever embark on an international round-trip voyage from South Australia!

Sailing round-trip from Adelaide to New Zealand for 17 nights may sound claustrophobic to some – imagining cramped hallways, tiny living spaces and portholes instead of windows. It’s nothing like that however, we’re pleased to report.

We were fortunate enough to check out the Golden Princess when it docked in Outer Harbour this week for the inaugural international voyage, and trust us, all of your worries will be put to bed once you see what it has to offer – this thing is massive (so massive we had to film our live video in three parts!)

Upon driving up the passenger terminal, it’s almost like you’re looking at a skyscraper in the middle of the harbour. At 17-storeys high, it’s practically a whole floating city, complete with a pools, spas, multiple restaurants, casino, 17 bars (yes 17!!), a nightclub, a library and even a wedding chapel!

With floor to ceiling windows surrounding you, you’ll never miss those gorgeous views of the sea while you’re getting up to some mischief.

Cruising is becoming an incredibly popular holiday for South Australians, and there’s been an almost 20 per cent rise year on year in South Australian cruise ship guests.

Over 75,000 South Australians took a cruise last year, a number which would almost fill the Adelaide Oval one and a half times over. It represents 4.4% of the state’s population – that’s a higher penetration rate than the cruise markets in North America and Europe.

Last year, the cruise industry contributed close to $100 million to the South Australian economy and with a 37 per cent increase in ships visiting the region this season, this number is set to surge.

Guests on the 17-night iconic international cruise from Adelaide across the ditch to New Zealand this week will enjoy calls to Melbourne, Dunedin, Akaroa, Wellington, Gisborne, Tauranga and Auckland, as well as scenic cruising through New Zealand’s stunning Fiordland National Park.

In addition to all the features onboard Golden Princess, guests will also enjoy Princess Cruises’ enhanced, award-winning Across the Ditch Program, designed to immerse guests in New Zealand culture and cuisine through a series of interactive and engaging onboard and shore activities.

Fares for a 18-day cruise to New Zealand on Golden Princess departing Adelaide on Monday January 7 start from $3,499 per person twin share*. For more information, see a licensed travel agent; call 13 24 88 or visit their website.
