International Grenache Day at National Wine Centre

International Grenache Day will be celebrated at the National Wine Centre on September 23rd by SA wineries – Yangarra Estate Vineyard, Dog Ridge, d’Arenberg, Olivers Taranga Vineyard & Samuel’s Gorge, that formulate the The McLaren Vale Cadenzia project.

Unique to McLaren Vale, Cadenzia has been introduced as an annual winemaking challenge that acknowledges the outstanding skills of the region’s winemakers. While there are clear guidelines for Cadenzia, which must include more Grenache than any other variety, winemaking improvisation, innovation and blending skills remain the foundations of the movement.

The term Cadenzia comes from the musical term Cadenza, generally referring to a portion of a concerto in which the soloist presents a virtuosic improvised performance, the Cadenzia project is often described as “Music You Can Drink” as it affords the winemakers a creative and individual expression of McLaren Vale Grenache demonstrating harmony, excitement and energy.

At the end of vintage, McLaren Vale’s winemakers look away from the score and infuse some virtuoso interplay with Grenache, each blending something that’s rhythmically driving.
