International organist to perform at Town Hall

Acclaimed German organist Prof. Ullrich Boehme will be performing a free Organ Recital at the Adelaide Town Hall on Sunday 2 October, 2011 from 3.00pm-4.15pm.

Featuring the works of the famous Johann Sebastian Bach, the concert is part of a nation-wide tour and will include performances in both Sydney and Melbourne.

“This is a once in-a-lifetime opportunity to hear one of the world’s most respected organists performing on our very own Town Hall Organ,” Lord Mayor Stephen Yarwood said.

“The concert is open to all ages and is free, so it’s a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon,” Stephen said.

Visiting Australia for the first time, Professor Boehme has served as Thomasorganist at St. Thomas Church in Leipzig for the past 25 years, following in the footsteps of Bach. He has recorded many CDs and has made numerous recordings for radio and television productions, both in Germany and abroad. He has also been invited as adjudicator for several international organ recitals.

Another organ concert will be held on 27 November and will feature well-loved Christmas carols performed by local musician Alexander Paine and The Academy Choir of St Francis Xavier’s Cathedral.
