International Producer Lightfoot working to bring Major Production to South Australia

Since late last year, Adelaide's internationally-renowned film producer David Lightfoot has been working with New York and L.A.-based feature film production powerhouse Circle of Confusion to bring the feature film ‘Echo Station’ to Australia.

‘Echo Station’ is a sci-fi thriller which has been described as “‘Memento’ meets ‘Alien’”.

Circle of Confusion's films include: ‘The Matrix’; the recent hit ‘Chronicle’; the just-released ‘Wraith of the Titans’ and Sir Ridley Scott’s highly-anticipated ‘Prometheus’.

The ‘Rogue’, ‘Coffin Rock’ and ‘Wolf Creek’ producer is a parochial South Australian and Advantage SA Board Member. Lightfoot has convinced the Circle of Confusion Executives to consider Adelaide’s new studios for the ‘Echo Base’ shoot and engage local film service companies.

So effective has David been in spruiking the South Australian industry that he will be accompanying Circle of Confusion Executives on an AusFilm sponsored tour of the Adelaide Studios and production facilities this week, with a view to potentially bringing ‘Echo Station’ to South Australia.

Lightfoot hints, "'Echo Station' would be the most ambitious feature film undertaken in the state since 'Pitch Black' and 'Red Planet'."

In a case of ‘when it rains it pours’, Lightfoot is also producing the comedy ‘Beautiful Beast’, a road movie starring Dominic Purcell (‘Prison Break’, 'The Killer Elite'); Academy Award nominated legend James Woods and Rhys Muldoon. Kirsten Dunst is rumoured to sign on as well. Director Jim Lainsboury co-wrote the screenplay with Muldoon. Lightfoot offers, “We’ll be confirming more exciting casting announcements soon and we’re on-course to commence shooting later this year.”

Lightfoot is also currently finalising financing and casting for the sci-fi adventure ‘Skylab’ from ‘Coffin Rock’ writer/director Rupert Glasson which he is also planning to shoot at the Adelaide Studios.

Meanwhile, Lightfoot’s latest film, the serial killer thriller ‘John Doe’ starring Jamie Bamber (‘Battle Star Galactica’, ‘Law & Order UK’) and Lachy Hulme (‘Howzat! The Kerry Packer Story’ and ‘Beaconsfield’) will have its international premiere at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. The producer is excited about the film’s prospects, “It’s looking absolutely fantastic. The director Kel Dolen is a talent to watch!"

Furthermore, Lightfoot is also in early discussions to executive produce a remake of 2011 DigiSPAA winner ‘10 Metres’ with his long-time protégé producer Michael Clarkin. Rory Noke will direct. “It’s a very unique situation for a team to be approached to re-make a low-budget film so we’re all very excited and again, looking to do as much work as possible on the film in South Australia!”

Lightfoot’s production, the big budget ‘Rogue’ is having a belated Japanese theatrical release. He shares, “It’s surprising as we made the film a few years ago. We’re being released on 40 to 50 screens in Tokyo so it’s great that Japanese audiences will get a chance to see the film!”

While his workload is increasingly taking him interstate and overseas, Lightfoot will be attending the opening night as the Founding Patron of the Shorts Film Festival on Saturday April 28.
