Adelaide is gearing up for an extraordinary spectacle this winter as Illuminate Adelaide returns, freshly crowned with the 2023 Gold Medal Award for Major Festivals or Events at the South Australian Tourism Awards.
Kicking off its 2024 lineup with a mesmerizing experience, Illuminate Adelaide announces the newly commissioned iteration of the Fire Gardens, set to transform the Adelaide Botanic Garden into a bewitching wonderland of flame and fantasy.
From July 4th to July 21st, 2024, the historic grounds will flicker with the soft glow of over 7,000 handcrafted fire pots, candlelit archways, and kinetic sculptures, all crafted by the renowned French fire alchemists, Compagnie Carabosse.
Known for their spellbinding installations worldwide, the troupe promises to deliver their largest ever exhibition designed exclusively for Adelaide, marking a first during an Australian winter.
Illuminate Adelaide co-founders and creative directors, Lee Cumberlidge and Rachael Azzopardi, expressed their excitement, stating, “The Fire Gardens experience is being designed specifically for our Botanic Garden… Compagnie Carabosse already plotting and mapping out their largest ever installation. Fire Gardens is the perfect way to experience Adelaide in July, and we know audiences will be blown away by this spectacle.”
The Adelaide Botanic Garden will host the event over 12 nights from Thursday to Sunday for three weeks, offering visitors a unique opportunity to wander through this enchanting setup. Early bird tickets are on sale now, with a special discount available until April 14th.
To enhance the experience, visitors can indulge in a curated dinner before or after their stroll at the Restaurant Botanic Rose Garden pop-up, helmed by the celebrated executive chef Justin James. With Restaurant Botanic recently making its mark on the World’s 50 Best Discovery list, this dining experience promises to be as unforgettable as the Fire Gardens themselves.
South Australian Minister for Tourism, Zoe Bettison, highlighted the festival’s significance, saying, “Illuminate Adelaide is now etched into the calendars of many Australians. The epic scope and scale of Fire Gardens will undoubtedly draw hundreds of thousands of locals and interstate visitors…”
As the nights grow colder, Adelaide’s winter is set to ignite with a celebration of light, warmth, and community. The Fire Gardens is just a glimpse of what’s to come in the full Illuminate Adelaide 2024 program, set to be announced on May 1st, 2024.
