AversionsCrown2014aHardcore metal fans would have been stoked to hear the news that Brisbane group Aversions Crown have not only teamed up with Nuclear Blast Entertainment, but are about to release their newest album ‘Tyrant’ on November 7th. Guitarist Chris Cougan couldn’t be more excited about the union with Nuclear Blast, and is doubly stoked to have another album out next month.

“We all kind of wrote a little at home, on our laptops etc, and once we all thought we had enough material to get songs together we got together with a friend in another band and got tracking stuff down. We refined it and went through all the grunt work we finally had ten tracks we felt made the cut. That’s when we tracked it to album quality- we really played it over and over until it was perfect.”

Make no mistake about it though, Aversions Crown are as hard and fast as it gets, and for all the strings, drums, and flailing hair, this group are serious contenders in the metal world!

The video clip for Hollow Planet alone is a Nuclear Blast in itself, and shows the intensity of the group and their ‘balls to the wall’ approach to music. It has an eerie Sci-Fi theme and is well supported by digital imagery, making it visually perfect for the song.

Do not though, mistake the angst laden songs of Aversions Crown as products of angry, rebellious guys trying to convey their frustrations upon the world, for Cougan himself is quite urbane, articulate and takes time to explain where their music comes from. Incidentally, when not playing death metal Cougan works as an IT Consultant.

“We all listen to a bit of heavy music and also other genres, but we decided to form a metal band because it’s fun to play, its faster, physical, and fun to write. It interests me to make that kind of music. It comes from the fact we all just LOVE writing this kind of music really.”

The band formed four years ago after a few friends got together and started to discuss musical interests and discovered they had similar ideas and what they wanted to achieve. They ended up jamming and decided to form Aversions Crown.

“My own inspirations are bands like Whitechapel and Behemoth, I look up to bands like that and hopefully reach their level.”

With the release of Tyrant, there’s every likelihood of them achieving this dream. It’s a HUGE, unrelenting wall of sound and has great production values.

The band has a solid following overseas, and in particular in Manchester, England where fans really took to them. “The crowd all knew the lyrics to our songs, it just blew us away and was one of the biggest shows on the tour. We weren’t really expecting people to know who we were let alone have the whole audience get into us- it was really motivating.”

For those who haven’t yet deciphered the meaning of the band’s name, Cougan explains that it’s a loose term given to the group by a former member, meaning that they’re against being controlled or being ruled by authority.Withthe release of ‘Tyrant’, it’s more likely that these guys will be ruling the metal scene for a while yet.

Aversions Crown will be touring the East Coast beginning November to promote the album, meanwhile, check out the Video for Vectors if Hollow Planet didn’t smack you in the face enough.
