Opening at Her Majesty’s Theatre on 11th April, Footloose The Musical is a guaranteed toe-tapping night out at the theatre.
Based on the titular 1984 movie, the four-time Tony Award-nominated musical became a cultural phenomenon, capturing the hearts of millions with its powerful story of youth, freedom, and the unifying power of music and dance.
Australians have embraced Footloose for decades and now it returns in a brand-new production – bigger, bolder, and more explosive than ever before. From rural towns to big cities, Footloose continues to find new audiences with its enduring and relatable themes, and arguably one of the best soundtracks of all time.
As the Reverend’s rebellious daughter, Ariel, Brittany Morton is no stranger to the stage. A 2021 graduate of the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), Brittany has trained extensively in acting, singing, and dance. Her stage credits include Guys and Dolls (Antipodes Theatre Company, 2023), Love Actually The Musical Parody (DV Live, 2025) and The Cover Girls aboard Celebrity Cruises (2025), where she entertained international audiences as a featured vocalist. Brittany is equally at home on screen, with recent appearances including the national television commercial Coles Deliver More (2024) and the short film Delusion which is premiering at the El Dorado Film Festival in 2026.
In the lead up to Footloose dancing it’s way into Adelaide, Brittany spoke to Glam Adelaide and shared with us what it is about the musical she loves.
“The music of the ’80s is just such a vibe and is always timeless. It doesn’t matter what era we’re in currently, I think that music is always going to have such a special place in people’s hearts. Then the dancing that goes along with that is just going to blow everyone’s minds. This ensemble is unbelievably talented. The music is just what Footloose is all about. But also at the heart of it, there’s a story of community, family, and navigating trauma in a repressed society. As a company, one thing we’ve been discussing is how there are some real crazy things happening in the world right now that we have drawing parallels with themes that are in the show. We would love it to be two hours where people can sit down and just enjoy the show.”
Like lots of music that came out of the 1980’s, Footloose is full of catchy tunes that will have you dancing in your seats.
“The ’80s was such a time where new things were being discovered musically. Dance music from the ’70s was bleeding over into the next decade. The fashion really started to go hand-in-hand with new music genres that were being discovered. Guitar riffs were so prevalent as well, especially in rock. So many pieces you instantly recognize as you hear the instrumental or opening guitar riff.”
We asked Brittany if there was a moment growing up when she knew that theatre was the path she wanted to pursue professionally.
“I think anyone of my generation growing up with a love for musical theatre in Australia remembers Jemma Rix singing Defying Gravity in the Wicked tour. I remember seeing that production of Wicked and walking out at interval in tears after Defying Gravity and going ‘that’s what I want to do with my life’. I was an extroverted child – I was always singing and dancing from such a young age. Since that moment seeing Wicked, it’s what I’ve always wanted to do.“
The cast features a cross-section of performers, some of whom are starting out in their professional stage adventures, while others are beloved stars of both TV and stage, such as Sophie Weiss and Rachael Beck.
“It’s been such a short period of time to rehearse. It’s been hectic and crazy, as any rehearsal period is, but this cast is so generous and warm. We’ve also got some incredible role models in the cast who have really nurtured some of the ‘new to theatre’ members. They have set such a great example for the younger cast members. It’s really just such a great team to be a part of.”
Footloose is a celebration of community, connection, and the courage to make change. It’s bold, it’s joyful, and it’s one of the most fun nights out you’ll have all year.
“We cannot wait to open in Adelaide. We are so pumped and excited to be at Her Majesty’s Theatre as well. It’s such a beautiful, historic theatre. We can’t wait to show the people of Adelaide what we’ve got. I can’t wait to be in Adelaide because I am in love with your wine regions as well. I grew up in the Yarra Valley, so any chance to visit a city like Adelaide where there’s great wine, I get very excited.”
