Interview: Georgia Germein – Germein sisters set to tour with Tom Jones

Adelaide band Germein set to tour with Tom Jones in 2024

Sisters Georgia, Ella, and Clara Germein, more commonly known as Germein, have been turning heads with their unique brand of indie pop songs and signature harmonies, possessing the distinct and close musical partnership that can only be shared by siblings. Their energetic and charismatic live performances have been described as nothing short of mesmerising, whether it’s jamming together on their family farm in South Australia, opening stadium shows for Little Mix, or performing on the Main Stage at the Isle of Wight Festival.

Currently on tour with the one and only Tom Jones in the UK, Georgia Germein spoke to Glam Adelaide about the current tour with Tom Jones as well as their recent Australian tour with The Corrs. Georgia shared with Glam how this came about.

“We have the same agent that’s based over in London. We were put forward to The Corrs and they liked us. All three of us grew up listening to The Corrs. I remember their hit song Runaway was one of the first songs I learned as a teenager in music lessons in school. Being on tour with them was incredible. I could watch them perform hundreds of times and not get sick of it. It was one of those things where you had to pinch yourself.

“I don’t know if you can find it anywhere, but we did record with Sharon Corr a few years ago and she played violin for a few songs. It was cool to see her again and then to meet everybody else. It was an amazing trip and I was quite sad when it finished because we had the most amazing time touring with them.”

Like all siblings, Georgia, Ella and Clara all have different hobbies they like to explore when they are not touring.

“We find it really good to have side hobbies to explore between tours and gigs. We explored them a lot more during COVID because before that we were mostly doing band stuff, but then all the touring stopped, so it let us look at other ways to do stuff. It’s really good because we all have quite different personalities. We can come back together and feel a bit more refreshed, and we feel like we’ve explored something in our own little pockets of interest. It’s nice doing that and then coming back and we can talk about what we’ve been up to.”

Opening for Tom Jones has been another wonderful performance opportunity for Germein.

“We did a couple of shows with him last year, opening for him. We got asked back to do a few more this year in the English summertime, which was amazing. We’re back in the UK to open for Tom as part of his stadium tour, and then of course the Australian tour in 2024. He’s been great to open for and the crowds have been amazing.”

Whilst it is great touring and playing in amazing venues around the world, nothing quite beats performing to a hometown crowd.

“We did the Entertainment Centre recently with The Corrs and that was just brilliant. We’d never played there before. We’ve driven past it numerous times and thought how it would be a dream to play there. It’s so much fun playing in my home town. You see so many people you know, which can be a bit daunting sometimes…especially when you spot your old music teacher in the crowd. Our gig with Tom Jones will be at Memorial Drive, which will be extremely exciting.”

You can catch Germein opening for Tom Jones in Adelaide at Memorial Drive on Tuesday 26 March, 2024.
