Grace Knight is one of the most enduring talents in Australian music, with ARIA awards and nominations and chart-topping recordings in each of the past three decades.
Acclaimed for her live performances, Grace is one of the finest interpreters of popular music in Australia today. Her spellbinding performances touch the soul and lift the heart. Grace’s magical presence connects with audiences of all ages like few others can.
She blew audiences away in the eighties as lead singer of internationally successful band Eurogliders. She captivated fans with her “Manic Ballerina” stage persona and Eurogliders took the charts by storm.
Grace Knight is returning to Adelaide for a special one night only performance on May 6 at the Regal Theatre. I was fortunate enough to speak to Grace recently about her upcoming performance and what drew her to forge a successful career in the industry.
“I have always had this thought in my head that it’s the public that puts their hand in their pocket and spends their hard earned cash either on tickets to a show or purchasing a record. I’ve always had this backdrop that the audience will tell me when they’ve had enough, and they’ll tell me by not turning up to my shows or buying my records. Touch wood, thankfully — fifty years into my career, that hasn’t happened!”
Grace is probably most recognised for her work with the hugely influential 80s group, Eurogliders.
“I’m really proud of the work I did and what I still am doing with the Eurogliders. We are actually performing at a festival in Melbourne soon. The thing that I am really proud of is when you get twenty thousand people at an event singing our song Heaven back to us, and I just can’t believe that here we, are forty years later, and the song still means so much to people today. That is a pretty powerful realisation, knowing that I’ve been involved in the making of a song that has had such an effect on people’s lives. I’m really proud of that.”
There’s clearly no sign of Grace stopping, with fans still packing houses wherever she is performing. I asked Grace if it’s the interaction between performer, band and audience that keeps her drive going.
“Dead set, yes. The interaction with the audience and also the interaction with my musicians on stage. None of my performances would exist without the team work of my band and the crew. That interaction between all of us in the room is so important to me.”
Grace will be appearing at the Regal Theatre on Saturday May 6 with her phenomenal band.
“I cannot wait to perform in Adelaide. I’m going to perform the numbers from one of my most favourite albums. I’m going to share some of the most beautiful stories around the songs, and some funny ones too. I’m going to be joined on stage by guitar, double bass and drums. I also have a wonderfully talented young lady on violin and doing backing vocals as well. This format will be very new to us as well, so I’m very excited to be bringing it to Adelaide very, very soon.”
Grace Knight Live, thanks to local promotor Markus Hamence, will be at the Regal Theatre, Saturday May 6 at 8pm. Tickets and further information can be found at https://markushamence.com/shows-and-events/ or https://www.trybooking.com/events/landing?eid=965021& .
