Interview: Joel Creasey Is Back In The Jungle

Only just recovered from his experiences on “I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here” last year, Joel Creasey returns to South Africa for the premiere of its companion show.

Only just recovered from his experience on I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here last year, Joel Creasey returns to South Africa but, this time, he is staying in luxury for the premiere of its companion show, I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here Now.

Based on the highly successful UK companion show, …Now will be co-hosted by Heather Maltman.

We spoke to Creasey from his five-star safari lodge.

Like a good after-party, this show will deconstruct the night’s goings-ons, provide gossip, opinions, interviews and, according to Creasey, a fair amount of ribbing.

“There will be in-depth interviews and also a lot of making fun of people…so I’m the perfect person for the job, just back-chatting celebrities all day,” he said. “All celebrities are ridiculous people, especially Australian celebrities, so this is my chance to make fun of them while they are suffering and starving in a camp in Africa. They found the most heartless person for the job.”

In this season they are going to be throwing celebrities a lot of insane challenges, Creasey revealed, “and it’s going to be so much fun to laugh at them!”

The show will also feature special guests, including lots of last year’s celebrities, this year’s eliminated celebrities and, Creasey insists: “I will absolutely have to have Marcia Brady [Maureen McCormick] on!” They will also talk to a doctor, a psychiatrist a ranger and various other people.

Creasey is right in the thick of it in South Africa.

“Oh my God!” he exclaims. “As I’m speaking to you, about a hundred metres away there’s a watering hole and I’m not even making this up…there’s two cheetahs eating an impala! I’m going to get the ranger to take me down there in a minute and get a photo.”

The show runs for six weeks, but then Creasey won’t be letting the jungle grow under his feet. On his return to Australia he will begin touring with the Melbourne Comedy Festival, and plans to bring his show to Adelaide in around June.

“I can’t wait. This is my new show, which is called The Crown Prince which consists of stories of the crazy things and celebrities I’ve met over the last year. I even talk about the last break-up I went through, which resulted in me having a rather large flirtation with Neil Patrick Harris. I love performing live. You can say so much more live than you can on television…you can be extra naughty! “

Despite the strictures of television standards, we’re sure Creasey will be naughty enough!

I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here premieres tonight –  Sunday 31 January 2016 – on TEN, with its companion piece, I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here Now screening afterwards on Eleven and TENplay.
