Interview With ‘Battleship’ Star Brooklyn Decker

Blonde beauty Brooklyn Decker may not be your typical action movie star, but the 24 year old model and actress seems to have hit her stride in the Hasbro board game spin-off Battleship. Louder and more in-yer-face than any board game I’ve ever played, Decker reveals she wasn’t afraid to get down and dirty for the film’s more grueling scenes.

“The action and stunt scenes, I won’t say they were easy for me, but it definitely felt very natural for me. I’m a very physical person!” she says.

“My character Samantha is covered in dirt and in a lot of the movie has no make-up on, and that’s how I am when I’m not working. But to tell you the truth, I’m not a big fan of the action movie genre myself… the reason I loved this so much was because it had female characters who are strong, which is pretty unusual for a movie like this”

‘Strong female characters’ is probably an understatement. Brooklyn’s character Samantha Shane, alongside weapons specialist Cora Raikes, played by none other than Rihanna, steal the scenes from their male counterparts. Decker has nothing but love for her pop singer co-star, who shone in her first big screen role.

“She’s incredible. I was already a big fan of hers already coming into the movie. There are a lot of similarities between us; we’re both kind of tomboys, we were the only girls on set, just hanging out with a big group of guys. I respect her a lot and she did such a great job.”

“To have a film where the entire cast gets along and likes each other, I won’t lie; it makes it so much easier [laughs]. We finished the film in 2010 so we’re just so excited to finally share it with everyone”

Enjoying the success from her recent acting roles, including Just Go With It with Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston, and the upcoming What To Expect When You’re Expecting Brooklyn says she’s in no rush to choose between her modelling and acting careers, but admits she’s been taken with the silver screen for the time being.

“I never set out to be an actor or a model. I started modelling as a way to pay for university, but when I moved to New York, I really missed school and the only thing I could study when I was travelling was acting. I fell in love with it and it was completely by chance. I still study to this day and that’s what keeps my interest and passion going. I haven’t modelled in a couple of years now; acting is definitely what I’m trying to get better at.”
