It’s all about the luck of the Irish come Saturday 21 August as The Dunes Port Hughes Irish Race Day takes place at Allan Scott Park, Morphettville Racecourse. The Irish jockeys will go head to head with their Australian counterparts on an outstanding day of racing and entertainment on and off the track.

Even more exciting for the ladies is the array of single Irish jockeys racing on the day. International jockeys making their visit to Oz for the challenge include Mark Walsh, Stephen Gray, Paul Townend, and David Condon.

As part of the day, local celebrities will be fighting for first place all for charity in the highly anticipated Boags Celebrity Challenge. The 50m long fun race to be called by race caller Terry McAuliffe will feature some of South Australia’s very own including Chris Dittmar, Graham Cornes, Ali Carle and KG.

South Australian Jockey Club (SAJC) CEO Brenton Wilkinson says, “The excitement of the jockey challenge with the longstanding rivalry between two patriotic racing nations always provides an exciting day.

“We’re also excited that the Boags Celebrity Challenge will provide racegoers great entertainment for a great cause, with the winner’s $1,000 award to be donated to a charity of their choice.”

Entertainment on the day will include the Irish Party which will play host to South Australia’s favourite DJ’s Reelax, Stubanga, Dui Deejays and Moonwerx. Keeping with the Irish theme, The Pot O Gold Party will feature live entertainment by ‘Dublin Taxi’ and the Celtic Celebration will include ‘Kilkenny’ as their live act.

With a great party atmosphere and plenty to keep the crowds entertained off the race track, the day is certainly a crowd pleaser.

Racegoers will also have the chance to win flights for two to Ireland simply by attending a day at the Irish races. To be in the running to win the prize valued at $5,000, patrons simply need to complete an entry form when they arrive at Morphettville Racecourse.
