The 2024 Santos Tour Down Under is poised to be an exhilarating spectacle as Italian cycling heavyweights Filippo Ganna and Elia Viviani join the fray, elevating the international competition in South Australia. Ganna, a two-time world time trial champion, and Viviani, a multiple stage winner at the Tour, are set to bring their formidable talents to Australia’s premier cycling race.

Filippo Ganna, a name synonymous with cycling excellence, holds the prestigious world hour record and is the reigning individual pursuit gold medallist at the Summer Olympics. With seven Grand Tour stage wins under his belt, Ganna’s career is a testament to his versatility and prowess on the bike. His recent second-place finish at Milan – San Remo, amidst the elite of the peloton, has solidified his status as a rider to watch in his debut at the Santos Tour Down Under.

Elia Viviani, a sprinter of remarkable caliber, has already tasted success at the Santos Tour Down Under, securing stage victories in both the 2018 and 2019 editions. With nine Grand Tour stage wins, a European Championship title, a Giro d’Italia points classification victory, and an Olympic Gold Medal on the track, Viviani is a favorite for further triumphs in the upcoming event, which is just 21 days away.

Stuart O’Grady OAM, the Race Director, is excited about having Ganna and Viviani in the competition. “These two Italian cycling superstars – will be coming here in red hot form and looking to double up with both wins in the Santos Tour Down Under and the Track Nations Cup,” he said. O’Grady anticipates their participation will add a high level of excitement to the race, as they aim to commence their seasons with a victory.

Filippo Ganna can’t wait to participate in the Santos Tour Down Under for the first time. “I’ve heard that it’s a great race, in a beautiful part of the world and with great support from the crowd. Together with my INEOS Grenadier teammates, we’ll be looking to take on the race and starting 2024 in the best possible way,” Ganna remarked.

Elia Viviani also expressed his fondness for the event and his aspirations for the upcoming race. “The best years that I’ve had as a pro started at Santos Tour Down Under so to start my season there is always good! I won stages in both 2018 and 2019 and I really hope to replicate that in 2024. I’m planning to be in Australia for about a month including some track racing – it’s a place that I love – and the big goal is to really start my season with a stage win at the Santos Tour Down Under,” Viviani stated.

The Santos Tour Down Under, set to take place in Adelaide and regional South Australia, will feature nine days of elite racing for both men and women from 12-21 January 2024.
