Sorriso Cucina, Port Adelaide Plaza’s newsest Italian restaurant and latest brainchild of SVAGO proprietors, Nancy and Sam Izzo.
Inspired by the features of a traditional Italian kitchen, Sorriso boasts a warm family environment, clean bright surrounds, and touches of ‘home’ in the form of a pizza oven, imported from Campobasso, Italy.
Indeed, family is at the heart of both Nancy and Sam’s restaurants, who along with their children share a desire to unite family, friends and loved ones over fabulous, authentic Italian fare.
“We always wanted to share our family traditions and food experience with as many people as possible, which means good food and good company – things that make you smile,” says Nancy.
“Sorriso means ‘smile’ in Italian, and that’s our ethos, along with family.
“Whether it‘s at Sorriso or Svago, we’re surrounded by family – we have an amazing passionate team in both restaurants who really care for all our customers experience, and our family business.”
And with dishes on Sorriso’s menu such as Paccheri ragu, where the meat sauce simmers no less than eight hours, or the Calabrese pizza which has a hint of chilli, and uses N’duja (a traditional Calabrian product), it’s hard not to sorriso.
According to Nancy, the secret to serving up authentic, Italian flavours is to “make it fresh.”
“Less is more,” she says.
“Don’t overcomplicate the dish.”
Paying homage to this philosophy are Nonna’s meatballs, a traditional recipe carbonara, spaghetti marinara – made using local seafood and the freshest ingredients, and pizza dough made in-house.
Sorriso may be the little sister to Svago, but this bambina is quickly making a name for herself with locals flocking far and wide to immerse their senses in eight-hour ragu.
“We have always wanted to have an offering in the Western suburbs, and Port Adelaide is an amazing, engaging community who have welcomed us from the get-go,” says Nancy.
