The Perfect Valentine’s Day For The Cheese Lovers

Valentine’s Day can all be a little cheesy. But what if it was cheesy in all the right ways.

Valentine’s Day… It can all be a little cheesy huh? But what if it was cheesy in all the right ways.

We’ve heard some talk going around that diamonds are a girl’s best friend, so we thought we’d finally set the record straight. The reeeal way to a woman’s heart is through fabulous cheese of course and Woodside Cheese Wrights just happen to have the answer to spoiling that cheese fanatic in your life this Valentine’s Day.

You may have heard of Monet. The delicious, local, mature beauty that it is… And no we aren’t talking about the artist. Although, Woodside’s Manager and Head Cheese Maker, Kris Lloyd, did name this special cheese after le artist who made famous the flower garden himself. Kris and her team are renowned for doing things a little differently like their edible flower garnishes and more recently, Australian native green ant encrusted cheese  – dubbed “Australia’s Best Cheese”!

The multi award-winning Monet is not only a damn fine cheese to look at, it’s also incredibly tasty. It’s made with local goats milk and matured for around 14 days before being topped with organic edible flowers and herbs (hence the name). It comes in various shapes, sizes, colours and for many different occasions. But we think the love heart shaped Monet just screams Valentine’s Day! It’s the perfect amount for two to share (although we could eat a whole one to ourselves) if you’re planning a romantic night in. Kris suggests enjoying Monet with some of their gourmet crackers and a chilled bottle of Prosecco.

“You only need two cheeses on your platter. The Monet and a brie or camembert. It doesn’t need to be any more complicated than that,” explains Kris.

“If you want to get a little fancy, pick up a punnet of fresh strawberries and some sticky, gooey honey. You’ll want to cut the berries in halves and pop them on to top of the brie. Infuse your honey with some thyme or macadamia nuts and drizzle that over the brie and strawberries. It’s simple but absolutely heavenly!”

All you need to know now is where to buy the goods – here’s a list of stockists in SA. For more cheeseboard inspiration, check out Woodside’s Facebook and Instagram.
