Favourite local comedian Jason Chong returns to the Adelaide Fringe with something a little different.
Read the Room is a quiz panel show where the audience vote on curly questions through their mobile phones while guest contestants try to work out which way the room will swing. It’s fun, cheeky, clever and hilarious!
- Is there a dead pet in your backyard?
- Are you allowed to flirt with married people?
- Have more than 2% (national average) of this audience been to jail?
The show marks Chong’s return to the Adelaide Fringe for the first time since 2015’s Blowhards and 11 consecutive Adelaide Fringes. Known for his inventive festival shows, he is currently also heard on ABC Adelaide’s Drive segment Pundemonium, was the inaugural Adelaide Comedian of the Year, and is an Adelaide Comedy Hall of Famer.
Read the Room was developed last year as part of The Black Box Experiment, a TV pilot incubator aiming at bringing television production back to Adelaide. It was selected as a finalist for the Media Resource Centre’s Out of the Box program and the format is currently being pitched to TV networks.
With different questions and guest contestants for every show, this social experiment guarantees to break up friendships and have countless couples arguing well into April!
“Interestingly, Read the Room will be in a tent in Gluttony, so I guess it’ll be… intense?” Jason Chong said before apologising for the awful joke and promising the show would be better than that.
