Daughter of Jimmy Barnes, Elly-may, jumped onto the rock legend’s Twitter page last night to advise that Jimmy is out of surgery, awake and doing very well following back and hip surgery.
Jimmy announced on 29th November that he required a significant back and hip surgery that would prevent him from performing live for several months. Now that he is on the road to recovery, he will recommence touring in the second half of 2023.
Hey everyone it’s @ellymaybarnes, my dadda is out of surgery and awake. The doctors are very happy …Thanks for all the well wishes. pic.twitter.com/kQtZ6BZ1wP

“I’ve been jumping off PA’s and stomping around stages for nearly 50 years, but it’s finally caught up with me”, explained the Australian rock icon a couple weeks ago. “I’ve had niggling back and hip issues for years, but things suddenly got a lot worse over the last few weeks and I’m now in constant and severe pain…”
Jimmy finished up his final headlining set at our very own VALO Adelaide 500 on Saturday 3 December. He has now withdrawn from all his other live commitments over summer. He has sent his sincere apologies to the fans and music workers who will be impacted.

To keep fans busy over the Christmas season, Jimmy Barnes recently released his highly anticipated Christmas album, Blue Christmas – his first ever collection of holidays songs.
“At least I know what present I’ll be giving everyone this year,” Barnes joked. “The operation will keep me cooped up over summer and I’m a notoriously cranky patient, so I probably need to buy noise cancelling headphones for my family too – that way they’ll hopefully still be talking to me when I’m back on my feet.”
