Aussie rock legend Jimmy Barnes has hit another hurdle on his road to recovery. Just months after heart surgery for a nasty infection, he now needs another operation, this time on his hip. The music legend has been forced to cancel his upcoming tour dates, making the announcement via his social media channels.
The news came via Barnes’ Instagram, where he detailed his experience of severe pain during the New Zealand leg of his “Hell of a Time” tour. “I had a twinge in my hip when I was leaving Dunedin on Thursday morning and by late last night the pain was unbearable so I went off to hospital,” Barnes shared. Doctors have advised an immediate medical procedure followed by physiotherapy, prompting Barnes to say, “These doctors don’t muck around!”
Despite the setback, Barnes remains optimistic. With a positive prognosis, he is expected to make a full recovery within six weeks, provided all medical interventions go as planned. However, this unfortunate turn of events means his scheduled performances for August and his solo shows in September will be rescheduled. The disruption affects multiple venues, including a planned appearance at the Sydney Opera House on August 18. Barnes expressed his disappointment over the changes, stating, “I hate to let anyone down, but I’m also never going to compromise the quality of my gigs.”
Ticket holders for the affected shows can expect further information and instructions on the rescheduling process shortly. Thankfully, Barnes’s appearance at the South Australian VAILO 500 event remains unaffected and is still scheduled to proceed.
This is not the first health challenge Barnes has faced in recent years. In 2022, he underwent hip replacement surgery due to significant pain endured during performances. Despite these obstacles, Barnes continues to be a pivotal figure in the Australian music scene, celebrated for his robust performances and unwavering resilience.
On the other side of his recovery, the rock veteran is gearing up to participate in the VAILO Adelaide 500 After Race Concert Series as part of Cold Chisel’s lineup. This year marks Cold Chisel’s 50th anniversary with their “The Big Five-0” tour, promising a series of dynamic performances at the event. Scheduled to headline on Sunday, November 17, the band will join other legendary Australian acts like Crowded House and Ocean Alley across the weekend.
When the announcement was made about VAILO 500 earlier in the year, Jimmy Barnes shared his excitement for the upcoming gig, stating, “I can’t wait to celebrate our 50th anniversary with our Adelaide fans. We’re gonna smash it!”
The VAILO Adelaide 500 will be held from November 14th to 17th.
