Triple J’s Zan Rowe has announced US Indie-folk darling Joanna Newsom will perform at WOMADelaide 2011.
The acclaimed singer songwriter and harpist’s WOMADelaide shows will be the first time she has ever performed in Adelaide.
Newsom’s album ‘Have One On Me’ was released this year to critical acclaim with Mojo Magazine calling it a ‘sprawling work of unquestionable artistry that‘s as clever as it is poignant’.
She joins ARIA award winning siblings Angus and Julia Stone, UK supergroup Afro Celt Sound System, celebrated multi instrumentalist composer Nitin Sawhney, Syrian techno-folk superstar Omar Souleyman, Sudan’s Rango, China’s Mongolian folk band Hanggai, Alan Kelly Quartet from Ireland and Indian flute master Rajendra Prasanna.
WOMADelaide’s full program will be announced on Wednesday 17 November boasting more than 50 groups (550 artists) from 30 countries.
