Dumpling aficionados across Adelaide are in for a steamy treat as the dynamo behind Plant 4 Bowden’s famed Joe Dumpling unveils a new eatery.
The brick and mortar Moon Bear Dumpling Co. has opened in the western suburbs and, while dumplings are on the menu, the store is offering more in terms of Taiwanese food.
Moon Bear Dumpling’s co-owner, Joseph Del Bono, says the idea for the eatery came as he wanted to pay tribute to the cuisine of his wife Emma’s home country.
“We found it hard to find [Taiwanese] cuisine on offer anywhere in town,” Joseph says.
“We like to eat that sort of food often but sometimes we don’t want to cook it so thats why we’re opening Moon Bear Dumpling Co.
“Fortunately, Emma learnt a lot of things [about Taiwanese food] from her grandmother and mother.”
Moon Bear Dumpling Co. is serving the same homemade dumplings, noodle bowls and rice bowls which have satisfied Joe and Emma’s customers since 2017, alongside an expanded menu.
Accordingly, Emma has been working with Adelaide’s Chef Dooley, who also grew up in Taiwan, permitting the creation of a balanced fusion menu.
The family-owned and operated business will use fresh and local produce to handcraft their food, and offer plenty of vegetarian and vegan options.
Understandably, the eatery boasts an image of a friendly Taiwanese moon bear named Rufus, who watches over as you enjoy your meal.
The store’s art deco interior was designed in partnership with Simon Cecere, and Joseph says the pastel interior is meant to set it apart from Joe Dumpling.
“We love vintage designs, like art-deco and pop-culture,” says Joseph.
“So we just wanted to create a different feel to Joe Dumpling.”
Moon Bear Dumpling Co. will open its doors on October 15, and can be found at Shop 4, 597 Tapleys Hill Road, Fulham.
